Use ribbon and floral picks to transform the look of your Christmas tree without buying new ornaments every year. This stately, elegant christmas tree is decorated with dozens of keepsake glass ornaments.

Welcome to my sparkling morning view — our elegant Christmas tree decorated with beautiful glass ornaments.

While some people prefer to decorate with a new theme and ornaments every Christmas, I'm more of a traditionalist. I love using the ornaments we've collected over the years and embellishing with different ribbon, floral picks and tree toppers.

If you're coming here from The Little By Little Home, welcome!

I'm sharing the details of this elegant Christmas tree in our living room as part of the annual Celebrating Christmas Blog Hop, hosted by Leen of Sand Dollar Lane. Twenty bloggers are participating, bringing you Christmas tree decorating ideas, tablescapes, centerpieces, wreaths and door decor.

Our Elegant Living Room Christmas Tree

Our main Christmas tree takes center stage in our formal living room. It's visible from our breakfast nook, foyer, family room and upstairs loft. So we get to enjoy it even when we're in another room.

The living room is open to the second floor of our home, and the tree is a stately 9 feet tall. It has a slim profile, and with the painted tree collar and oversized velvet bow topper, it looks even taller!

This year, I added a second tree to the living room, and if you come back next week, I'll give you a tour of the entire room of the rest of our home decorated for Christmas. You'll see lots more Christmas trees to inspire you, including a pink one decorated with my prized Shiny Brite vintage ornament collection.

For this year's main tree, I lucked upon some gorgeous 4-inch wide green velvet ribbon at an after-Christmas clearance sale last year. I stashed the ribbon away in my craft room and made a big bow to use as a topper for the tree.

Since you can only see our tree from 3 sides, I opted to have only 2 tails of ribbon trailing down the tree. (And, being completely transparent, I didn't have enough ribbon for more tails! )

Normally, I like to use ribbon throughout our tree, but I didn't want anything competing with the velvet. So I used a variety of different sparkling floral picks and beaded glitter tape to fill in any gaps.

I try to use mostly pinks, greens, silvers and gold on the tree to match the decor in the living room. But other colors do make an appearance here and there.

When it comes to tree decorations, I love oversized glass ornaments and anything with glitter or sparkle.

We also like to use keepsake ornaments from our family travels on this tree.

This year, in particular, it's been fun to take a stroll down memory lane and reminisce about the places we purchased each ornament.

I hope you've enjoyed this look at this year's Christmas tree.

Christmas Trees from Years Past

I also thought it might be fun to look back at how I've decorated the tree in years past — using mostly the same ornaments, but switching out toppers, ribbons, floral picks, tree skirts and collars. (We got a new artificial tree around 2017, but they're essentially the same size and profile.)

My photography and styling skills have improved over the years. So the more recent trees are definitely prettie and better lit! But each iteration of our Christmas tree contains important family memories. A Christmas tree doesn't have to be magazine ready to be special or beautiful.
